Serving in Worship

Worship is an action, an atmosphere, a mindset, an emotion, and a state of being. Jesus says there will come a time when his followers will worship God in Spirit and in Truth. Our act of worship is one that engages all of the senses, brings life to the community of believers and keeps us connected as we journey beyond the walls and doors of the physical church building.

Worship is how we live, act and engage the world around us. We see the beauty and detail in God’s creation, which produces a response in us to who God is and what God has done for us, to us, through us and with us. We reflect and remember our call to worship daily, and we gather on Sunday mornings to greet each other with a smile and a song, and with enthusiastic service to our family of faith.

There are many ways to serve in worship. Each is an act of worship, and each is a blessing to the community of Abiding Love.

Lector - At Abiding Love, we listen to God’s word at every worship service. Lectors are volunteers who read from the Old Testament, the Psalms, and the New Testament. The readings are printed in the bulletin and projected in the Sanctuary for people to follow along. Contact Gus Sterneman, This email address is being protected from spambots. Altar Guild – The Altar Guild at Abiding Love are the wonderful volunteers who prepare, maintain and clean the altar and all the support items needed for Communion. They prepare the bread and wine, clean the trays and plates used during the service, and help support other worship assistants during Communion. Contact Amelia Mettke, 512-288-1994.

Communion Assistants—Holy Communion is celebrated every Sunday at Abiding Love. Communion Assistants serve wine during communion, either by holding a chalice or tray of individual cups. Contact Gus Sterneman, This email address is being protected from spambots. Ushers –Usher teams rotate on a monthly basis. Folks are always welcome to join these teams, for either the 8:30 or 11:00 am service. Ushers enjoy meeting new people, shaking hands, answering questions about Abiding Love and being a warm welcome to all who enter the doors.Contact Gus Sterneman, This email address is being protected from spambots. Sound and Video Abiding Love has a beautiful sanctuary and each week a team of volunteers work to balance sound and project images. If you have skills in Power Point, audio sound mixing, recording, or Live Streaming, you could help to enhance the worship environment with sound and projection.
