BELONGING TO GOD
An Act of Worship and An Expression of Faith
Sunday, September 13, 2009

…”if any want to become my followers, let them deny themselves and take up their cross and follow me.”  Mark 8:34

 Points to Ponder:

Have you experienced giving as an expression of love in your own life (as either the giver or receiver of gifts)?  How might this work in your relationship with God?

What is your reason for going to church?  Is it to meet your own needs or is it to worship God?  Has this changed over time?

Do you see a difference between ‘stewardship’ and ‘ownership’?  What difference does that distinction make with regard to attitudes and actions in life?

What would happen if God were in charge of your finances?

What does the phrase to “belong to God” mean to you? Is it threatening or promising?

Mark Allen Powell states: “Belonging to God and living for Christ are ways of describing what it means to be redeemed.  It is not a response to salvation; it is salvation.  It is part of the gift.”   What do you think?

Prayer:
Lord God, thank you for the wonderful gift of creation.  Everything I am and everything I have belongs to You.  You have given me such a high privilege to care for all in this world.  Your love has touched me.  Please help me change my heart so that my offerings are made in a spirit of devotion and adoration.  Help me to be a faithful steward and to continue to trust in You to provide for me. Amen.
